The world-famous Sydney New Year’s Eve fireworks are an unforgettable experience. Produced by the City of Sydney, Sydney New Year’s Eve is a celebration of the New Year with a breathtaking fireworks display set against the glittering Sydney Harbour, the iconic Opera House and the Sydney Harbour Bridge.

Volunteering for this magical night is a lifetime and unique experience.

Volunteer Role –  Spectator Services Team

  • Information Booth
  • Roving Information team

These teams are the ‘face’ of Sydney NYE. You’ll give information to the public about specific viewing areas, access areas and direct people to these sites. You’ll also hand out the Sydney NYE guides and maps.

This is a fast-paced role. Local knowledge of the Sydney city centre is essential. A second language is highly regarded, as the City of Sydney will host tourists from all around the world.

This opportunity is open to volunteers over 18 years only.

Selection and training

A selection process for volunteer positions will take place. Based on your application you will be invited to attend an interview (interview sessions will be held between 17 October and 30 November).

Volunteer Briefing Session – 21 December, specific time TBA. Compulsory for all volunteers.

Volunteer Workshop  – 28 December, specific time TBA. Compulsory for new volunteers. This workshop includes a walk through the city centre and training on Sydney New Year’s Eve operations.

Volunteer dates and times

Morning, afternoon and evening shifts will be available throughout the city centre. Shifts are around 7 hours each.

More information will be provided during the selection process.

Pre-event information booths

Tuesday 27 December – Friday 30 December
*These shifts will be available as additional shifts to everyone who is accepted and registered in a shift on 31st December

Event day – information booths and roving teams  

Saturday 31 December.
