SMH Half Marathon 2014

Dates: 16th – 18th May 2014

Eventeamwork is very excited to be involved in The Sydney Morning Herald Half Marathon for the third year and we would love you to be part of it!

The Sydney Morning Herald Half Marathon will be held in Sydney CBD on Sunday the 18th of May. This year we need volunteers to help at the Half Marathon Expo on Friday 16th and Saturday 17th of May as well as on the event day in 2 different roles – Relay Assistant and Course Marshal Filler.

The Sydney Morning Herald Half Marathon is Australia’s largest and most prestigious half marathon. The event includes again a two-person relay to complement the 21.1km course.

The Relay consists of teams of two and is split into a 7km and 14km leg.  For more event information go to http://www.smhhalfmarathon.com.au/

The event raises much needed funds for many charities, including Breast Cancer Network Australia.

We are looking for volunteers to join the team and assist the event in the following roles:

  • Expo Volunteers (16th or 17th of May)
  • Relay Area Assistant (18th of May)
  • Course Marshal Fillers (18th of May)

Expo Volunteers

Location: Sydney Lower Town Hall

How to get there

Assist with:

  • Delivering positive customer service to all participants
  • Efficient race pack collection
  • Answering any last minute event day questions
  • Providing directions for those collecting their race packs

Relay Area Assistants

Metcalf Park, Pyrmont (next to Fairfax building near The Star)

Assist with:

  • Help event organisers with the start line set up
  • Direct participants to their allocated start slots
  • Give information
  • Manage pedestrian flow.
  • You will need to be fit to help move equipment around if required

Assist with:

You need to be flexible, like surprises 🙂 and be happy to work in any positions. You may work as a course marshal, a water station assistant, start or finish line support.

You will find out your specific role on the day. You will start the day at Hyde Park catching an event bus that will leave you in your position along the course. You might even finish again at Hyde Park helping at the start or finish line.


We encourage the use of public transport where available, as parking is very limited on event day.
