Parramasala 2015 – A Spicy Celebration of Cultures

Parramasala is an international contemporary arts festival that celebrates the rich and diverse cultures in Sydney. Now in its sixth year, Parramasala brings together music, dance, film and flavours from more than 30 cultures in a free and family friendly festival.

There is a whole world to explore at this free event in the centre of Greater Sydney. The Festival includes an opening night parade, free outdoor concerts, food and handcrafts markets, a street party, exhibitions, a film festival and lots more.

VOLUNTEER ROLES

Info Booth AssistantAll positions have been filled

Parade Marshals – directing a community group participating in the Parramasala Parade. Volunteers will get the opportunity to be a part of the Parade – a vibrant, colourful, noisy caravan of people, floats and vehicles.

Spice Garden Event Assistant – providing general information about spices and herbs and the use of spice in cooking and healing purposes. You will also be providing information about the Festival program and artists to the public.

India Tourism Pavilion Meet the Artist Assistant – assist the Stage Manager to set up/pack down and manage the ‘Meet the Artist’ Sessions. These are educational and interactive sessions where the public can meet the artist, ask questions and learn about their culture. You role will include assisting to gather an audience to interact with the artist; assisting the artist to sell and sign CD’s, and assist public to get photos with the assist.

One Big Idea: City of Parramatta Meet the Artist Assistant – assist the Stage Manager to set up/pack down and manage the ‘Meet the Artist’ Sessions. Cinema Thali Film Festival Assistant – working with the Film Festival Curator to provide information about the Cinema Thali program and also provide general information about the Festival and artists to the public.

Sports Hub Activity Assistant – as part of the festival managing the ping pong tables and bocce in the sports activities area.  You will be responsible each day to set up the activities and then to pack everything away; to keep an eye on the bats and balls and see that nothing goes missing; and assist and encourage people to participate.
