Fantasea Harbour Hike 2015

What is Fantasea Harbour Hike?

Fantasea Harbour Hike will return once again for a great day out with the family. It is an easy to moderate, 12 km walk from under the Sydney Harbour Bridge, along the Harbour foreshore paths on the lower north shore to Clifton Gardens Reserve, Chowder Bay. It is regarded as one of the best walks in the world and a fantastic day out for families to rediscover the magnificent Sydney Harbour.

Funds raised and donations received during the course will directly benefit SIMS’ flagship Sydney Harbour Research Program which aims to “future proof” Australia’s most iconic waterway.

Volunteer Roles

Route Marshals

  • Assist at points on the course where participants are required to cross roads and ensure participants do so safely and with minimal disruption to road traffic
  • Provide participants with information and directions as required

Checkpoint Marshals

  • Assist at checkpoints on the course where participants fill in their Fantasea Harbour Hike passports
  • Assist with the installation, set up and tidy up of checkpoint areas
  • Provide participants with information and directions as required

Sign in Registration Desk – Volunteers will be required to collect paperwork and ID’s from participants and search for their name, these will be in alphabetical order. It is an advantage to have a keen eye for detail for this role.

Merchandise/ Information Tent – Volunteers will be selling merchandise such as t-shirts and water bottles. You will also be required to give out event information and answering a wide range of hiker questions, so it is important to bring a friendly attitude and a smile along.

On the Day Registration Tent – For this role volunteers will be the first friendly smiling face participants see. For this role you will be helping to process any payments for hikers who wish to sign up on the day. This role will involve cash handling and processing eftpos payments.

Finish Line Tent – Volunteers will be congratulating participants as they finish the hike. You will be checking their event ‘passport’ when they cross the finish line and tearing off sections for entry into the draw.

Runner – Volunteers will be involved in various site tasks. For this role you will need to be flexible and happy to help out where needed for your shift to help ensure the event runs as smoothly as possible.

BBQ Helper – Volunteers will be assisting with the setting up of the BBQ area and service. We are looking for friendly volunteers to handle cash and serve participants as quickly and efficiently as possible.

Course Sweep – Volunteers will be following the last hikers along the course and alerting volunteers at checkpoints that the last hiker has past. They will assist to close the checkpoints, collect any equipment and take down A4 signs if possible.
