15th World Conference on Lung Cancer

Volunteer Shifts: 23rd – 30th October 2013

Location: Sydney Convention and Exhibition Centre (SCEC), Sydney NSW

The 15th World Conference on Lung Cancer is one of the largest international gatherings of researchers and physicians in the field of lung cancer and thoracic oncology. The International Association for the Study of Lung Cancer (IASLC) is a not for profit organisation and are pleased to welcome more than 7,000 delegates to this unique and important scientific event. With a record number of more than 2,300 abstracts, WCLC has become the premier international meeting in lung cancer and thoracic oncology.

This will provide a great opportunity for students and those interested in lung cancer to come along – help out with this worthwhile cause and expand their knowledge in the area.

PLEASE NOTE: Volunteers are required to

  • Do a minimum of 3 shifts across the following dates:
    23rd October – 30th October 2013
  • Agree to wear black shoes, pants/skirt and a Volunteer T-Shirt (Shirt provided by the Conference)
  • Speak fluent English
  • Attend a mandatory training session on Saturday, October 26 (not applicable if you sign up for the Conference Bag preparation on October 23 + 24 only)

Volunteer Roles:

Delegate Bag stuffing
Volunteers will be packing items into the bags before the conference begins.

Delegate Bag Pick Up
Volunteers will be handing out delegate bags to delegates. Volunteers will be required to exchange delegate bag vouchers for conference bags- delegates will have the choice between three different bags. Volunteers will also need to count the number of bags that have been handed out at the end of each day.

Poster Board Assistant for Presenters
Volunteers will assist poster presenters to set up and dismantle their posters. This role also includes directing delegates to the correct poster areas.

Ticket /Entrance Control
This role is for the Gala Dinner. Volunteer’s will be taking tickets and assisting with crowd control and flow.

Session Room Monitors/Session Tracking
This role involves guiding people to their seats, scanning the delegates bags on entry, checking that attendees are wearing their name badge and keeping note of any incidents that may happen during a session (running over, speaker or chair missing etc.)

Speaker/Podium Assistant
Assist chairs and speakers of the session, ensure that audio recording is working properly, remind speakers of their allocation presentation time, ensure all speakers are in the session room at the beginning of the session, start presentation for each speaker. For this role it is preferable that you have some AV/IT understanding.
